Private Pilot Licence
Full time, Part time or casually... your choice
Private Pilot Licence (PPL)
The Private Pilot Licence gives you the independence to fly when, and where, you want... anywhere across Australia!
Getting bored of flying basic training aircraft? Why not add additional ratings to your licence like retractable undercarriage, or fly bigger, faster aircraft. Feeling a need for speed, or always wanted the added safety of two engines? Add Multi Engine Aircraft to you licence. The possibilities are endless with a Private Pilots Licence.
Step 1 - Flying:
Flight training for a Private Pilot Licence focuses on navigating the aircraft between 2 or more airports, and safely positioning the aircraft to land. As part of the training, we focus on techniques to increase navigational accuracy, how to safely conduct operations at unfamiliar airports, and identifying hazardous flying weather.
The licence allows you to fly anywhere in Australia, including remote and barren desert environments, and we want to give you the confidence and ability to operate an aircraft anywhere in Australia.
Step 2 - Theory:
You can either choose to attend our PPL theory classes (recommended) that run regularly throughout the year, or self study the course material at home. The CASA PPL Theory Exam is considered one of hardest exams as it contains content from all 7 subjects in the one exam.
Step 3 - Flight Test:
After completing the required flying and theory, you will be ready for the flight test. The test is conducted by a Flight Examiner and will include both a oral questionnaire and a flight component.
When you pass the flight test, all your time and effort will be rewarded with your Private Pilots Licence!
3 Step Process
Flight time & experience:
CASA require that you have, as a minimum:
10 hours solo flight time,
5 hours solo 'cross country' (navigation experience)
40 hours total flight time
All flying experience counts towards the 40 hours required for a PPL, including any flying already conducted for a RPL and any flying conducted at another flying school.
