In the high stakes world of aviation, safety management has traditionally focused on technical systems, compliance, and risk mitigation. However, there’s a critical element at the heart of every operation that often goes underestimated: the human element.
While technology and automation have advanced aviation safety, it’s ultimately the people, those in control and in decision making roles, who determine outcomes. A modern approach to Human Factors training is essential to support these individuals and foster a safer aviation environment.
As the aviation industry progresses, the importance of human factors, such as behaviour, performance under pressure, communication, and mental health, is gaining traction. Years of advancements in safety management systems (SMS) have led us back to this fundamental truth: without considering the mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing of aviation professionals, safety protocols have a critical gap.
In response, we at PanAir have committed to putting our people first by developing a specialized Human Factors course that includes essential mental health training tailored for aviation professionals. This training enhances individual well-being while strengthening overall operational safety. Initially launched for internal training, this course has generated significant interest from other organizations. As a result, we are now offering it through our company’s training facility.
In addition to supporting our team, our Human Factors training helps operators meet CASR regulatory requirements for ongoing training of both maintenance and pilot personnel. This program ensures compliance while empowering staff with the skills needed to perform at their best.

Course Overview
Our Human Factors and Mental Health course explores core principles, from traditional aspects such as communication, teamwork, and fatigue management, to modern challenges including stress management, mental health awareness, and resilience building. The course is delivered onsite as a one-day workshop and can be tailored to suit small or large groups, meeting specific needs across varied operational environments. Annual refresher training is recommended and can be delivered either in person or through our eLearning portal.
Why Mental Health Matters in Aviation Safety
Although human factors have long been a component of safety training, mental health remains a newer, sometimes overlooked area. In high-pressure environments like aviation, mental wellbeing directly impacts how individuals perceive, respond to, and manage critical situations. Integrating mental health into human factors training improves individual wellbeing, enhances team dynamics, and strengthens safety outcomes.

In aviation, we invest heavily in maintaining aircraft and equipment, yet the essential component of every operation, 'the human element', is often overlooked.
Our course offers both the theoretical understanding and practical tools aviation professionals need to recognize fatigue, identify mental health challenges, and know when to seek help. Through strategies for stress management and open dialogue, participants gain tools to foster a healthier, more resilient workforce.
What to Expect in the Course
The training includes:
Core Human Factors Principles: Understand the fundamentals of human behaviors, teamwork, and decision-making in aviation.
Human Factors Overview: Review the basics of human factors affecting performance in aviation.
Fatigue and Performance Management: Learn techniques to mitigate fatigue and enhance safety.
Mental Health Integration: Discover supportive, nonpunitive strategies for identifying and addressing mental health issues.
Building a Safety Culture: Create an environment where people feel safe to report, reflect, and seek help, strengthening the overall safety culture.
Human Factors - The Dirty Dozen: Explore the 12 key human factors impacting aviation safety, with a focus on seven areas closely linked to mental health.
A Path Forward for Aviation Safety
In today’s evolving aviation landscape, it’s essential to prioritize the people behind the controls. Our Human Factors and Mental Health course equips aviation professionals with the skills needed to create a safer, more supportive operational environment. By making wellbeing an integral part of safety, we can work toward an industry that not only advances in technology but also champions a holistic, human centered approach to safety.
